A Mother’s Legacy
How to Capture the Daily Moments of Motherhood (Without Feeling Overwhelmed)
How to Capture the Daily Moments of Motherhood (Without Feeling Overwhelmed)
Motherhood is a whirlwind of precious laughs, late-nights, tiny hands reaching for yours, and milestones that pass in the blink of an eye. One moment, you're rocking them to sleep in your arms, and the next, they're running ahead of you, chasing their own adventures. Time moves fast, and as much as we try to hold onto these fleeting moments, they can start to blur together in the daily chaos of life.
But what if I told you that capturing your motherhood journey doesn't have to be complicated? You don’t need elaborate scrapbooks or perfectly curated photo albums (unless that’s your thing!). The beauty of memory-keeping is that it can be as simple as a five-minute pause to jot down a thought, snap a picture, or record a voice memo.
Here are some realistic and meaningful ways to preserve your daily moments—without feeling overwhelmed.
1. Keep a 5-Minute Daily Journal
Motherhood doesn’t slow down, but capturing it can be quick and easy. A daily journal, like my 5-Minute Daily Memory Prompt Journal (OUT NOW!), helps you reflect on your journey in just a few moments each day. Simply respond to a short prompt—something like “What made you smile today?” or “A moment you don’t want to forget.” These tiny reflections add up to a treasure trove of memories over time.
2. Take Unfiltered, Everyday Photos
Not every picture has to be Instagram-worthy! Snap the real-life moments—the messy breakfast table, the way your child grips your finger, the toys thrown around your house as your child plays. Years from now, these are the images that will take you right back to what life really looked like.
3. Start a “One Line a Day” Tradition
Before bed, write down one sentence about the day. It could be a funny quote your toddler said, something new they learned, or how they made you feel. Over time, this collection of single sentences will become a powerful time capsule of your motherhood journey.
4. Record Voice Memos or Videos
Hearing your child's tiny voice years from now will be priceless. Record their belly laughs, bedtime snores, or the way they say “I love you, Mama.” Even a quick voice note about how you're feeling in the moment can be a powerful keepsake.
5. Create a “Mom & Me” Memory Box
Fill a box with little mementos—hospital bracelets, their first drawing, a special note. As your child grows, add letters to them, and one day, you’ll have a beautiful collection to share.
6. Capture Milestones Through Footprints & Handprints
A simple way to watch your child grow over time is by stamping their handprint or footprint on a piece of paper or inside a special journal each year. It’s a small, artistic way to document change.
7. Write Letters to Your Child
Every so often, write a letter to your child about what life is like in this season of motherhood. Save them in a keepsake box or journal to give to them when they're older.
8. Make Memory-Keeping a Shared Experience
Involve your kids! Let them draw pictures, share their favorite moments, or help create a family scrapbook. Not only does this capture memories, but it strengthens your bond.

Mother
Mother
To my daughter: This was the moment I found out that my body held more than just my heart.
The sun kissed my face,
its light pulling me from sleep.
Warmth wrapped around me—
as if God Himself pressed against me,
holding me close in a Father’s embrace.
Something was different.
This touch was new.
For months, the waiting had felt like winter,
prayers dissolving into the quiet sky,
hope thinning beneath the weight of not yet.
My womb ached in places only faith could reach.
But this morning, the frost melted.
I rose from my bed,
toes meeting the ground—
but I was not the woman
who had laid her head to rest the night before.
Bold black letters spanned across a stick.
My eyes met the truth
my soul had already known.
And in that moment, I understood—
the warmth I woke to
was a whisper, a welcome,
a congratulations from the One
who had been holding us both all along.
Before I carried you in my womb,
I carried you in my prayers.
And before I named you,
He named me—
Mother

A Poetry Series Of A Mother’s Journey For Her Daughters Remembrance
Some moments in life shape us so profoundly that we are never the same again. Motherhood was that moment for me.
I remember the morning my world shifted—the moment I discovered I was pregnant. I was going to be a mother. It was a quiet yet monumental moment, filled with emotions too vast to capture in a single breath. From that day forward, my life became a journey of not only growing my child inside of me but growing into the mother she would need.
The Legacy I Am Leaving
This series, "Born Together: Two Hearts, One Journey," is my love letter to my daughter. Through poetry, I will capture the journey from when I discovered her to the toddler she is today, and beyond. This series will grow as she does.
This is more than a collection of words—it is a safekeeping of our story, an intimate and vulnerable look into the thoughts and feelings that shaped me as I became a mother.
One day, when she is older, she will read these poems and know that she was loved deeply, fiercely, and completely. She will also get a deeper insight into how I grew as her mom.
I want to remember who I was, how I grew, who she was, and how she grew. I want the flow of my words to carry on far past me and be a collection of love for my daughter.
Mamma, This Series Is Also For You!
But this series is not just for her—it is also for every mother who has ever carried love in her womb, in her arms, in her prayers. I want to encourage mothers who want to preserve the sacred moments, to create a keepsake of their own, a story their children can hold onto long after tiny hands have outgrown theirs.
I invite you, fellow mothers, to walk this journey with me into my world of motherhood.
I also encourage you to write your own story. To document the moments, the emotions, and the growth—both yours and theirs.
Because the truth is, we were never just raising them.
We were growing, too.
